General rules:

In the Monday Night Dinner Club several non-related families share Monday night dinner. Families takes turns hosting in their home and guesting in the other member homes. Your definition of family is as good as mine, but 10 people or less is optimal. These are family suppers, not banquets. We meet to enjoy one another's company, not to show off hosting skills, or get frazzled trying to produce extravaganzas. There is a time limit - ours was 1 hour (at 6 people), and is now 90 minutes (at 7-10 people). By member agreement, Monday Night Dinners (MND's) are suspended when most members are away - over Christmas, Easter, and during summer vacations.

The 10 Commandments of Monday Night Dinner

Host rules:

  1. Prepare as much as you can before Monday.
  2. Inform your guests by Saturday of when supper will be served on Monday.
  3. Supper is a full meal, with vegetables, entree and dessert, but a casual affair.
  4. Serve dinner on time.
  5. Enjoy yourself. It's only an everyday meal.

Guest rules

  1. Let your host know how many in your party will be coming and arrive on time.
  2. Bring pleasant conversation and share in it.
  3. Bring no wine, food or gifts.
  4. Do no dishes or clean-up. Your turn will come.
  5. Leave after 90 minutes.
